Erin Lofton (b. 1964) is an American symbolist and visionary artist whose sensual, ethereal paintings explore themes of beauty and chaos, dreams and visions, nature, mythology, and Romantic mysticism. Working within an intuitive visual language, her work blends symbolic imagery, layered atmospheres, and eco-mystic sensibilities into immersive psychological and spiritual landscapes - a deep dive into the inner mythic and sacred dimensions of human experience.
Lofton was born and raised in the Hyde Park Historic District of Chicago. In the 1980s, she studied fashion design, painting, and sculpture at Otis Art Institute during its Parsons School of Design era, as well as Arizona State University. Following college, she spent a decade traveling independently and living in magical destinations like Mount Shasta, Maui, Sedona, Vermont, and the Sierra Nevada mountains. These experiences profoundly shaped her artistic practice.
Artist Statement:
I explore the Divine nature of beauty and chaos within human experience and seek to express these observations through painting. My paintings honor nature and the old ways, with many images arising from contemplation of the cycles of Life, Death and Rebirth.
