Lofton’s ancient Goddess / Priestess figures were just starting to emerge before 2000, during a solo RV journey in 1998, a time she used for deep art exploration in natural settings. The ethereal figures became more prominent after living on Maui for 3 years (in a tipi, over a waterfall in Huelo, Hawaii) and then continued evolving when she returned to the mainland, Sedona Arizona, to join a shamanic group she met on the island.

Story:
“The title for this painting is taken from the first line of automatic writing I engraved into the paint: “The Soul Can Learn but Perhaps the Human Being Cannot”. I started my automatic writing, spontaneous & abstract poetry, within my paintings, in the 90s.”
